You would need to move the clip around the light for it to be in a useful position (other than for stowing) after removing it from the headband. I think it would be possible to have the clip attached while it is in the headband. I use the light as a head torch 95% of the time so it normally just sits in the headband anyway. I haven’t made any day-to-day use of the pocket clip at time of writing. I don’t have any other straps to compare it with but anything that is similar to the skilhunt design (i.e., fairly wide and cushy band) should be an improvement. I will be ordering one of these straps to replace the Armytek one. I have tried swapping the band itself with a Skilhunt band (from an H04RC I bought for my brother) and it is much comfier. It has stretched slightly so is a bit more comfortable now than at first. I do have an unusually large head circumference (not sure what it’s filled with as it’s certainly not grey matter), I often have to find extra-large helmets, etc. This is a bit of a niche issue, but I found the headband somewhat tight. Fitting the end of the strap backwards through the buckle has minimised this issue but it has still occurred occasionally. I’m fairly certain this wouldn’t result in the light being dropped but it was slightly concerning. I have also had the end of the horizontal part of the band slip through the tri-buckle due to having it extended as wide as possible. If you wear a beanie or similar hat, then that negates this issue. It isn’t very nice to wear, especially for longer periods of use. It’s just not a very comfortable design as the plastic of the mount has to sit directly on your forehead and the band isn’t wide or thick enough to cushion it very well. The quality is good as far as the buckles go, etc. While I really like the clip system, I’m not a fan of the headband that comes with the torch. If you’re likely to be doing anything that will jostle or knock it, I don’t think this will go anywhere. I have tried multiple over arm swings with a harsh stop to dry and dislodge it (both with the rubber strap open and closed) and it will not budge. The attachment system between the light and the headband is very solid, I think it would require enough force to seriously injure the wearer to disconnect it. I have included quite a bit of detail here as I think it's an important part of a light where being used as a headtorch is a substantial part of its functionality. It would also fit no problem in a small bag or pouch as well as small pockets on backpacks. It fit in most decent size trouser pockets (minus the headband) and even with the headband attached can fit in larger cargo pockets. I think it’s definitely small enough to fall into the somewhat nebulous EDC category. I was actually surprised how small the light was when it arrived, even after thoroughly planning the purchase. The threading on the tail cap is not anodised but there is anodising past the top of the cap when it’s screwed down, right to where the threads start. It’s almost a slightly “soft” feel, which isn’t to imply durability issues, just that it feels very nice in the hand. The anodizing is nicely done and has a finish that I find quite easy to grip. It definitely has a very “solid” feel, although I have not found the light heavy enough to be uncomfortable. It could also be a thicker material used in the body of the light. I presume this is due to the potting (protective material that’s applied as liquid around the circuitry, which then solidifies), which the other lights do not have. It is noticeably weightier than the H04RC, a similarly sized right angle light. The build quality of the light overall seems very high. I did some (very) subjective tests looking at how far I could see things with the light and checking the distances on google maps and found that it seems to usefully light up a distance of between 60-70m on turbo mode. It is listed as providing 97m of throw, but I’ve found it to be quite a bit less than that. The only area where the light doesn’t excel is throw, this is to be expected given it’s focusing on area lighting and balanced flood, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I’ve found it will effectively light up an area of about 20-25m on its highest main setting, with turbo modes offering a little more reach and quite a bit more brightness within that area. The lens is fully frosted which seems to work well in this case as it produces a very balanced light across a quite a wide area. It provides really amazing colour rendering I’ve been extremely impressed in this area. While I have a limited range of comparison, I can attest to the colour quality being very pleasant to use. As far as characteristics go it’s a very floody light without a discernible hotspot.
